In 2021, Heifer International started work in Nigeria, investing in the creativity of young Nigerians and new technologies to unlock opportunities within the agricultural sector for sustainable living incomes, food security, improved livelihoods and resilience.
Heifer Nigeria aims to support more than one million families, predominately women and youth, to reach a sustainable living income by 2030. Through strategic private and public sector partnerships, Heifer Nigeria’s program goals focus on developing the social capital of smallholder farmers, unlocking demand and market opportunities, investing in priority value chains critical to the country’s food security, leveraging innovation and emerging agricultural technologies to reach impact at transformational scales.
Heifer Nigeria’s Naija Unlock program unleashes Nigeria’s potential for food self-sufficiency, increasing local production to meet rising local demands, while closing the living income gap for families in in the tomato, rice, poultry, small ruminants and cattle value chains.

Heifer Nigeria collaborates with a wide range of stakeholders including young technology innovators and entrepreneurs, tech hubs, agribusinesses and farmer groups, investors and financiers, business development service providers, agricultural research institutions, the donor community and government agencies.
