Did you know that World Water Day is Friday, March 22nd, 2019? This year's theme is one we can all get behind - Water for All: Whoever you are, wherever you are, water is your human right. We all need clean water to live, and access to safe water is also a necessity for the small farmers that Heifer works with. Not only do they need clean water to drink, they also require it to water their crops and to feed their animals. That's why Heifer International is working to do even more to make sure that every village has close and reliable access to safe water.
Here are a few ways to celebrate World Water Day with kids in your life, have some fun and expand some horizons, too.
Design and make colorful signs for the sinks at home or at school, reminding everyone to turn off the faucet when they are washing their hands or brushing their teeth.
Challenge your family or class to finish their meals, or to save the leftovers for later. Reducing the water that goes into producing the food we eat is a great way to cut down on water use.
Take a look at this Heifer infographic about water use and brainstorm more ways you can conserve at home.
Millions of people around the world, often kids, have to walk long distances to water sources and haul gallons and gallons of water back to their homes every day. Many have learned to carry these heavy burdens on their heads. Try walking a mile in the shoes of someone without ready access to water: Fill a 5-gallon bucket with water, balance it on your head, and see how far you can walk with it. If you're doing this with kids or a whole class, you might want to break out some ponchos.
