Heifer was tracking the massive hurricane bearing down on the the Pacific coast of Mexico Friday, though our programs staff said the storm is not expected to directly impact our area of work in the Central American country.
Hurricane Patricia is the most powerful hurricane ever recorded according to the National Hurricane Center. Heifer's projects are located in Oaxaco and Chiapas, further to the south of where the storm is expected to come ashore.
Because of the hurricane's strength, however, we are expecting Patricia to affect the entire country. Programs staff in Mexico are following the storm and will update headquarters on any possible impact to the Oaxaca and Chiapas coast and surrounding areas from heavy rain, flash floods or landslides.
Our thoughts are with the people of Mexico. We will update here with any news of the hurricane's impact on our work.
