CARE, World Vision alumni will lead effort to diversify fundraising
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Heifer International today announced two new employees— Matthew De Galan and Jason Miles—who will lead development (fundraising) efforts for the global hunger and poverty organization, specifically to help diversify the organization’s donor base.
MATTHEW DE GALAN is the new vice president of global strategic partnerships, where he will lead Foundation Relations, International Resource Development and Corporate Relations team. De Galan officially joins Heifer on Feb. 22, 2010.
De Galan has devoted more than two decades to international development causes, most recently as a senior fellow at the Nike Foundation where he helped create partnerships with multi- and bi-lateral funding agencies to build support for the Foundation’s mission of empowering adolescent girls. He began his career as a reporter for the Kansas City Star, and then spent 10 years with the international relief and development organization CARE in New York and Atlanta.
He joined Mercy Corps in 1997 and as senior vice president, managed Mercy Corps' 70-member fundraising, marketing and communications team. He has authored or co-authored five books and four documentary films, including, The Last Child: the Global Race to End Polio.
De Galan grew up in Detroit and Chicago and attended the University of Kansas and the Universite de Bordeaux, earning degrees in Journalism and French. He also attended the Harvard Business School’s Humanitarian Leadership Program, and has traveled to more than 40 countries. De Galan will be based in Portland, Oregon.
JASON MILES is the new vice president of development, where he will lead Heifer’s major gifts program, mid-level donor fundraising, workplace giving, capital campaign and collaboration with the Heifer International Foundation for planned giving. He joined the Heifer team Jan. 29, 2010, and is based in Little Rock, Ark.
With World Vision United States for close to 15 years, Miles worked in Human Resources and directed the organization’s mid-level fundraising franchise and directed major gifts in a large regional office. He most recently directed workplace giving, interacting with 1,400 companies across the United States. Miles received his BA degree from Northwest University and his MBA, with an emphasis on Global Leadership, at Eastern University.
