LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Nov. 25, 2014) – Doug Galen has been elected to an at-large position on the Board of Directors of Heifer International, an international development organization with a mission to end hunger and poverty and care for the Earth.
Presently, Galen is a lecturer at Stanford Graduate School of Business and Haas School of Business where he teaches aspiring entrepreneurs frameworks to build successful startup companies. He has been building innovative and disruptive companies bridging the online and offline worlds for some 20 years. Galen was previously the chief revenue officer at Shopkick which is a mobile application with over 7 million users that leverages mobile phones to transform shopping.
“Doug understands the power of innovation to accelerate growth, transform business models and enhance end-user experiences,” said Pierre Ferrari, Heifer International’s President and CEO. “He will help Heifer International innovate ahead of change, not just with donor dynamics, but also globally integrating all of the work we do in a world facing rapid changes.”
Previously Galen worked at Shutterfly as Senior Vice President, where he helped to grow revenue from $50 million to $500 million, and eBay, where he helped to create eight new business units including Tickets & Experience, Real Estate and Health & Beauty.
He brings to the board a keen sense of strategy and the ability to scale up e-commerce, m-commerce and strategic partnerships.

Galen also serves on the nonprofit Board of Directors for Positive Coaching Alliance and Jasper Ridge Farm. He received both his bachelor’s degree and Master of Business Administration from University of California, Berkley. He resides in Menlo Park, California, with his wife of 21 years and their teenaged daughter.
Heifer International’s Board of Directors comprises 19 members of diverse backgrounds in the business, agriculture, academic, faith-based and private sectors.
